Today we drove to Quinta Mazatlan, a mansion, now a nature area and part of the World Birding Center. We walked around the trails, and John spotted a Common Pauraque sitting on a branch above our heads. It flew, and we could see the markings really well. Saw two more flying as we walked along. This was a Life Bird for us both. #568 for me.
We then drove to the NABA (North American Butterfly Association) Garden. There weren't too many butterflies, but there were lots of birds. They have a bird feeding section set up, and birders can sit at a picnic table and watch. Fortunately, the table was in the shade as the temperature today climbed to 98 degrees. We saw our second life bird of the day, the Long-billed Thrasher. #569.
Lastly, we went to another World Birding spot, Edinburg Wetlands. There were lots of birds on the North Lake, including our 3rd life bird, the Fulvous Whistling Duck, actually there were six of them. #570.
This evening we visited with Dave and Joyce, friends from the Wilderness Center Birding Club, who happen to be renting right across from us. They showed us a Peregrine Falcon that was sitting on a water tower across the road.
An eventful day. Hopefully, there will be another one tomorrow.
