April 17, 2011
Our first stop today was Homolovi Ruins State Park. This is a site with ancestral Hopi ruins, including a restored Kiva, ceremonial room. They have excavated four different sites in this park.
Next stop---Meteor Crater. There was a movie at the Visitors' Center and a very well done museum. John went on the guided tour along the edge of the top of the crater. Very windy, and John said the guide went into way too much detail and took too long for the amount of wind. No
one is allowed to go down into the crater. John met me back at the Subway that is in the center,
and we had a quick lunch.
Drove through Winslow again on old Rt. 66. Drove into Winona, also a Rt. 66 town, but all we could find was an old bridge which is no longer used.
Tried to reserve a room at the old Cameron Trading Post Motel in Cameron, but they were all booked. So we are staying in Flagstaff tonight.
