April 3. 2011
Started out the day birdwatching from the parking lot of our motel in Texarkana. Two new Texas birds: White-throated Sparrow and Brown Thrasher. Traveled on Rt. 82 instead of the expressway. Along the way, noticed some Bluebird houses on fence posts, and there on the wire was a male Eastern Bluebird. This is an unusual bird for Texas, and my third new Texas species.
We drove into the town of Clarksville and took a few pictures. Down the road we snapped more pictures in the town of Paris.
Then we drove up to Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. The wind was gusting about 28-29 mph. Another Texas bird in my scope, American Golden Plover.
Added several year birds today also.
We are staying in Wichita Falls, and had dinner at a Cracker Barrel. Heading in a southerly direction tomorrow.
