May 5

This morning the hikers caught the Zion shuttle around 8:30. They are hiking an 8 miler up to Observation Point and back. Dawn decided not to go. The two of us drove to the pond trail behind the Best Western and bird watched there for a while. Then we drove to the local park and crossed the bridge over the Virgin River and walked the nature trail up to a small dam. Returned and ate lunch at one of the tables in the park.
About 85 degrees here this afternoon. I went to a couple of shops, bought some pottery and turquoise jewelry. Hikers are having a long day. They will be tired, especially since it is so hot.
They all made it on the Observation Point hike. John, Jim, Joe, and Glen then went back part way and climbed to another point called Hidden Canyon Point. John returned about 5:30 p.m.
Dinner tonight at 6:30 at Wild Willie's Restaurant, which is right next to the motel.
Hikers were tired after the long day. Some are opting out of the long hike to Angel's Landing
tomorrow. John will be the leader.

More from Zion tomorrow...

Elaine and John
