May 3

This morning we slept in a little and left for St. George UT. John could eat because he was have his blood levels checked at the Medical Center there. It took us about 2 1/4 hours to get there,
but we drove through some beautiful country.
After the blood test, we went to a local restaurant. John had breakfast, but by this time, I was ready to eat lunch.
We then drove into the old part of St. George and visited the Mormon Tabernacle there. It was built in the 1870s. A guide took us through and explained some of the church's history. Then we went over to the Temple. No one but the most devout Mormons are allowed inside. We went to the Visitors' Center, where a volunteer from Minnesota told us how they built the Temple and
more history.
We drove north of town and went to Snow Canyon State Park. A lot of Navajo Sandstone and a great deal of lava from volcanic eruptions makes the park's landscape interesting. The canyon is named after two brothers whose last name was Snow. There were some kids there climbing the face of one of the red cliffs.
We headed to Zion then, stopping at a little cafe on the west end of Springdale to have dinner.
Back at the same motel we were in three nights ago. Much warmer here than it was in Bryce, and there is a lot less wind. Suppose to be in the low 80s tomorrow. No hike here today as most of the hikers did an 8 mile loop at Bryce this morning and early afternoon.

More from Zion tomorrow...

John and Elaine
