May 1
Started out the day having breakfast at Wild Willie's Restaurant and eating pancakes. I ordered mine with Bumbleberries, taste like a combination of blackberries and huckleberries, very seedy.
Picked around them. Good taste though. John managed to eat some of mine.
Headed out of Zion and up Hwy. 15 to the northern section of Zion, Kolob Canyon. Stopped at the Visitors' Center where the Ranger talked John out of hiking the long trail to the double arch, muddy, wet, snow, cold wind. John hiked the Taylor Creek trail, middle branch, about 5 miles.
I drove up the 5 mile road, bird watched, and took lots of photos. Met him back at the trailhead.
Drove to Cedar City and turned east. The road to Cedar Breaks was closed because of snow,
Navajo Lake was frozen, but a couple of smaller ponds were open and had ducks on them. Red Rock Canyon was beautiful as usual. There is a bike trail that runs all through it, too.
Arrived at Bryce View Lodge, Bryce Canyon National Park around 4:30. Room was freezing when we walked in. Heater going full blast. Put a pillow by the crack in the door where wind was coming in. Hot water took 5 minutes to get to the shower. We are the first ones of the group here. Sunny, bright, and cold, but beautiful.
Heading over to Ruby's for dinner. Ate at the regular restaurant, buffet $17.99. We decided on salads and baked potato. It was plenty.
Some of the other hikers have started to check in. They are all driving up from Las Vegas, NV.
Pictures later after John downloads the cameras.
