February 8, 2011

Left Charleston, WV around 9:00 a.m. Clear until we hit Ohio. Then we had snow from Marietta to almost New Philly. About 1 mile from home we had a flat tire. Waited an hour for AAA. After dropping the tire off for repair (unrepairable, of course) and stopping for dinner at Meldrum's,
we arrived home. Half the drive was melted, but the top half was thick ice under snow. We knew
it was hopeless trying to get to the Bike Club meeting. Good to be home.
Here was our Welcome to Ohio.

After breakfast at The Clock Restaurant, we left for home. It was 7:30 a.m. We stopped somewhere along 301 for a pitstop at McDonald's. A Cattle Egret was on a nearby car hoping for a handout.
We continued north and finally got on 95, passed through Georgia, and are stopped for the night in Waltersboro, South Carolina at a Ramada just south of Charleston.

Last ride of this year's Florida Trip. Only 11 on the ride. Dave, Marilyn, and Karen left early this afternoon. Larry took Gary to the airport. 7 of us had dinner at Ophelia's Restaurant tonight.
It is raining here, and looks like there is rain ahead for traveling tomorrow.

February 4, 2011

Today John went off on a ride. I stayed in bed. My earache had lessened, but it had drained all night. I debated all morning whether to go over to the Emergency Room again. Finally, around noon, I decided to walk over. When I went out the door, Dave and Marilyn were in their room. I
asked if they would drive me over, and Marilyn did. Thank goodness! I wasn't looking forward to
hobbling across Tamiami Trail, since the light is very short.
At the Emergency Room, they found I had a slight temperature, plugged and infected ears, and
a perforated right ear drum. Nice! Got some antibiotics and ear drops, and have an appointment to see a ENT specialist when I get home.
Meanwhile John had two nice rides, putting in 53+ miles today.
We went to dinner at the Clock Restaurant.

February 3, 2011

Today we drove up to Myaaka State Park. Most of the riders did 36 miles, mostly on roads just north of the park. I rode 10 miles inside the park, the last 5 in a light mist. Four more year birds today: Black-necked Stilts, White-eyed Vireo, Ovenbird, and Chimney Swifts.
On the way back from the park, we ate at a restaurant called Sweet Tomatoes with Paul and Sara.
It is a very large buffet.
John is still trying to get his new computer to work on his new recumbent, but it is only working about 1/2 the time.

February 2, 2011,

Today some riders went to the Pinellas Trail. The rest of them rode up to Casey Key. I stayed here and caught up on laundry. Frittered away the afternoon playing with the computer and reading my book. No pictures today. Should have taken one of John and his new recumbent.
Tomorrow for sure.

February 1, 2011

The group went up to ride on Longboat Key today. John and I rode the Intercoastal Waterway Trail for about 12 miles. Then we drove up to St. Petersburg to a bicycle shop. John tested out a
recumbent and bought it. It is a Bacchetta. Will post a picture tomorrow.
I added 4 new year birds to my list today. Sunny, close to 80 degrees, and a brisk south wind.
